John Prine Has Operable Form of Lung Cancer

  NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Singer-songwriter John Prine says he’s been diagnosed with an operable form of lung cancer. A note on the 67-year-old Prine’s website says he will undergo surgery next month, forcing the postponement of two dates in Louisville, Ky. Prine says in the note that doctors found the cancer early and “see no reason why I won’t fully recover.” The cancer is not related to the squamous cell cancer on his neck for which he was treated in the mid-1990s. Prine’s management confirmed the details of the post. The “Angel from Montgomery” singer postponed dates in Wisconsin earlier this month due to illness. Those concerts and two scheduled for next month in Louisville will be pushed to 2014....

Lou Reed Has Died at Age 71. Agent Confirms Previous Report.

Rolling Stone Magazine is reporting that Lou Reed has died at age 71.  No cause of death has been given at this time. He did receive a liver transplant in May and was hospitalized a few months later for severe dehydration. We will update the story as more information becomes available. UPDATE: Mr. Reed’s literary agent Andrew Wylie has now confirmed the death and claims it is related to his liver illness. Cheap Trick Files Counter Lawsuit Against Former Drummer Bun E. Carlos

In late July we told you the story about how Bun E. Carlos is suing Cheap Trick for monies owed. Here’s that piece. Now they’re are counter suing. Here is a piece via Reuters News Service. Richard Nielsen, Thomas Peterson and Robin Zander have sued founding drummer Bun E. Carlos, asking a judge to confirm he was validly removed from the board of Cheap Trick Unlimited Inc and two other band-related corporations. The lawsuit filed on Friday in Delaware’s Court of Chancery, a venue more accustomed to high-stakes business spats, follows a July lawsuit by Carlos. Linda Ronstadt Suffering From Parkinson’s Disease

Now Ms. Ronstadt has gone public via a piece in AARP From AARP Blog Legendary singer Linda Ronstadt, 67, told AARP today that she “can’t sing a note” because she suffers from Parkinson’s disease. Diagnosed eight months ago, Ronstadt began to show symptoms as long as eight years ago. But she ascribed her inability to sing to a tick bite (“my health has never recovered since then”), and believed the shaking in her hands resulted from shoulder surgery.
