Rolling Stones Hint at Possible 50th Anniversary Concert.

With Mick Jagger in the infancy of his super group Super Heavy, Charlie Watts occasionally busy with the ABC&D of Boogie Woogie and Keith Richards considering a solo album, one might think the Rolling Stones have unofficially called it a day. However, guitarist Ronnie Wood — who just celebrated 16 months of sobriety — tells the Evening Standard that the band are planning something for their 50th anniversary next year. “We’ll try to recapture the old camaraderie,” Wood says, adding that a series of gigs is being planned with the possibility of London’s Hyde Park being a location (the site of the band’s famous 1969 Hyde Park concert, the Stones first following the death of guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Brian...

Perry Jordan Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist in Heartsfield Passes at 62.

Posted 01 Jul 2011 in Music + TV News

Maureen O’ Donnell – Chicago Sun-Times As a member of the band Heartsfield, guitarist Perry Jordan opened for some of the biggest names in the music business. He streaked naked at a gig with Jimmy Buffett and had his heart broken a little by Stephen Stills. He rescued numerous stray dogs — and one wolf. He kept his rock ’n’ roll attitude to the end of his life. Just five days before he died, Mr. Jordan, who had been in declining health since a heart attack a year ago, urged a hospice nurse: “Kiss me.” Mr. Jordan, 62, of Midlothian, died Wednesday at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights. He’d been a founding member and a principal songwriter for...

David Bromberg readies New Album with Help from Levon Helm, John Hiatt, Linda Ronstadt and others.

David Bromberg’s new Use Me tickles the ear with a spicy smorgasbord of the many musical ingredients that make up the “Americana” genre. David’s concept for the CD was to ask a wide variety of singer-songwriters and musicians to write (or choose), produce, and perform on songs showcasing his versatility as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Answering his call were some of the greatest talents in contemporary music: Dr. John, spreading New Orleans “fonk”; Los Lobos (with a Mexican-flavored waltz); country music’s Vince Gill and bluegrass’s Tim O’Brien; Linda Ronstadt, making a rare appearance (on a Brook Benton ballad); Levon Helm (playing on two chunks of Woodstock blues and goodtime music), Southern jam band Widespread Panic, contemporary roots singer-songwriter John...

To the people who stole my Les Paul

Posted 21 Jun 2011 in Music + TV News

To the people who stole most of my stuff out of my studio on June 5, including my main guitar of 43 years, let me tell you about it. It’s a very altered, but very real 1953 Gibson Les Paul Model – Serial # 3 0621 (stamped on the back of the headstock) This is not a gold-top. In the 1950’s, it was refitted with an ABR-1 bridge and stop tailpiece, and then refinished, all by Gibson. The green colour in the picture, (especially on the rear half of the body where the light reflection is less), is accurate. It’s one of the lightest Gibson Les Pauls, and the only one of its’ colour, that I’ve ever seen. I’ve...

The 59-year-old had been battling cancer. Gold seemed destined to find a career in music, thanks to the accomplishments of his family. His mother, Marni Nixon, sang for Natalie Wood in ‘West Side Story’ and for Audrey Hepburn in ‘My Fair Lady,’ while his father, Ernest Gold, won an Oscar for his score of the 1960 film ‘Exodus.’ Taking up multiple instruments on Ronstadt’s ‘Heart Like a Wheel, ‘Prisoner in Disguise’ and ‘Hasten Down the Wheel,’ Gold added a charm and robustness to the...
