BoDeans "Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams"

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#90 in the Series) is Bodeans.Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams.

The BoDeans are still huge in Chicago.  I’m not sure how big they’re ever gotten outside of this area.  It’s hard to tell from the inside.

This was their debut release.  I personally like the 2nd album, “Outside, Looking In” better, but I’m featuring this one.

This one has many of their concert favorites to this day. “She’s a Runaway, Fadeaway, Still The Night” jump out at you at the top of the disc.  Nice opening to a career boys!

BoDeans are basically Sammy Llanas and Kurt Neumann.  They’ve gone thru numerous band members. A little birdy told me that they’re not the easiest guys to work with.

This 1985 release was produced by T-Bone Burnett.

The title comes from the Rolling Stones ‘Shattered.’

I live in Australia and I can tell you this band is big in my house. I stumbled across them via Robbie Robertson’s “Somewhere Down the Crazy River” way back in ’87. Now if you don’t mind repeating artists one day you gotta include Joe Dirt Car as a very very cool album.

HI Peter, wow, I didn’t know the BoDeans ‘reach’ had ‘reached’ Oz! Playing on Robbie’s album sure helps. Excellent.

We’ve done some repeats, but not many. We’re staring to trickle them in here and there. I’ll keep this one in mind. Do you do any writing? We do take ‘ guest entries’ if you’re interested in putting one together yourself for this or any other album you fancy.

    Thanks for writing, Larry

I will take up the Guest Entry challenge in the New Year…… I got about half way through the series yesterday after stumbling acorss yiour site via the Little Feat “Waiting for Columbs” entry. I will check all the way back to No.1 before putting some words together.

After mentioing Joe Dirt Car and posting about Columbus last night I got thinking about what was my favourite Live Album … and I reckon I’ve come to my conclusion ……. for now

5: Dave Matthews & Time Reynolds Live at Radio City
4: Bo Beans Joe Dirt Car (though not a proper Live Album I know)
3: Pearl Jam (of the heaps to choose from) Live Mansfield MA 11 July 2003 because it starts with a 12 song acoutstic set, Just pips Melbourne 2009.
2: Little Feat Waiting for Columbus
1: Neil Young Live at Massey Hall. Timeless … a performer at the height of his powers

    Merry Christmas
