Spinal Tap ‘This is Spinal Tap’

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#911 in the Series) is Spinal Tap, This is Spinal Tap

Very, very rarely do I toss around words like ‘brilliant’ and ‘masterpiece.’  But I think they apply when describing the humor in the movie, This is Spinal Tap.

For those of us that worked in the industry, This is Spinal Tap rang so true, so real, that it is almost scary to watch at times. Yet, the comedy still plays well enough that someone with just casual interest in music can still enjoy it.

What also was brilliant was thatthis-is-spinal-tap the stars and writers of the movie also were responsible for creating the music.

Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean played all the guitar parts and did all the singing. They did have help with keyboards and percussion.

All the songs were written by Guest, Shearer, McKean along with the movie’s director Rob Reiner.

I have a feeling many of us haven’t watched this one in a while. It’s time.

This is Spinal Tap Peaked at #131 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Charts.

I’ve got nearly all the songs from the album on the playlist below.

I tried to get some scenes from the movie as well but copyright rules said no…

Because I enjoy doing stupid things with my money, I have collected more than a few “Tap” promo items over the years.

When the record industry began to get away from the CD cardboard ‘long box”, “TAP” put promo copies of their “Break Like The Wind” in a SUPER long box!!! It stands about 36″ tall!!!

I also have a Spinal Tap colander….no not CALENDAR…a COLANDER!!! Funny stuff!!!
