Echo and The Bunnymen “Ocean Rain”

Today’s Cool Album Of the Day (#306 in the Series) is Echo and The Bunnymen, Ocean Rain.

Echo and the Bunnymen were one of the leaders of the post punk movement of the early 80s. We previously discussed their great album from 1987. It was just self titled, “Echo and the Bunnymen.”  That was my favorite album of that year.

Today we’re going back a bit to 1984 and another one of their great releases, Ocean Rain.

Ocean Rain was a little darker than the self-titled 1987 album.  It featured some spectacular songs including one of their darkest, “Crown of Thorns.”  Haunting is a word that could be used here as well.

The title cut was another not to be missed as was “Seven Seas.”

Having said all that… there was one song that stood out. In fact, it stands out not only for this album but for Echo and the Bunnymen in general. That was the great song, “The Killing Moon. “ A must listen on the playlist below.

Since I’ve now mentioned the playlist, I also want to mention two fantastic tracks that I’ve added to it.

“Do it Clean” and “The Puppet” are not on any album. Well, they are on the hits package, but they are not on a regular studio release.  These are two of the best songs they did. Especially the lengthy, “Do It Clean.”

So please check out the playlist. There’s some really great music there.

Ocean Rain peaked at #87 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart in 1984.

Make sure you click on the album cover and check it out as well. It’s one of my favorites!
