OK, I'll start us off. The two "biggie's" that I can think of would be u2 and Prince. I saw both of them at the great Chicago club called the Park West. It holds about 700 people. It was magnificent sound there as well. I want to say that both of them were about 1980. I saw the REM Murmur tour as well at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City if you want to count that one as well. Springsteen at the Auditorium in Chicago was a nice one. That was 1978. Tickets were available the day of the show!!

I saw a group named Tres Hombres, a ZZTop cover band, at a small bar in Palatine during the mid 80's. Their drummer was...Billy Bob Thorton, though I had no idea who he was at the time.

Saw the Alarm with maybe 20 - 30 other people at a club in ElPaso TX.

Wilco at Mabels in Champagin is another.

No one who became huge though.
