Bruce Springsteen “Born To Run”

Today’s Cool Album Of The Day (#411 in the Series) is Bruce Springsteen, Born To Run I guess there’s really only one album that would be appropriate for today’s feature, and that would be Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Born to Run. We lost “The Big Man” this past weekend, and I think this album was the recording that showcased his talents the best.  We’re presenting it as a tribute to him. I remember when I first heard of this album. I was a teenager and my girlfriend at the time had a bunch of biker brothers.  (What the heck was I thinking?)  One of them lived at home (sometime) and had what I thought was a really cool...

Ray Davies “See My Friends”

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#347 in the Series) is Ray Davies, See My Friends. The pantheon of rock’s elder statesmen for me includes Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, and Ray Davies.  There are others, but these are the AARP members that when they put out a new album, I will make it a point to check out their new work.  Of this group, Billy Joel has not put out anything new since 1993.  That’s right folks, the “Piano Man”, has not put out an album of new material in 18 years. Elton is Elton, and Paul is Paul, that is both of them can do no wrong.   They keep their respective fingers...

Rosanne Cash “The List”

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#317 in the Series) is Rosanne Cash, The List When Rosanne Cash was 18, she was spending most of her time on tour with her famous father, Johnny.  One day, Johnny was checking out what she was listening to.  Most of her tastes, like most teenagers, were towards the music of the day.  He thought it was time to teach her a little bit about music. So he brought her into the tour bus, sat her down, and wrote out a list of, what he felt, were the 100 most essential country songs of American music history. She held onto that list. She would look at it year after year.  She became quite...
