What is Nick Lowe Teasing? A ‘Stiff’ Reunion in the Works? An Album Backed by Wilco? What?

Posted 19 Jul 2013 in Music + TV News, Uncategorized

Could there be some kind of Stiff Records Reunion in the works? Something is up we know that. Nick Lowe posted this picture and teased it with this caption. “Wondering what big announcement is coming Thursday, July 25? Head to www.nicklowe.com   (starting today!), where we’ll have daily hints of what’s to come. We’ll also try to help fill in the blanks with extra clues here on Facebook. Hope you’re as excited as we are…” There have been a few people guessing that it will indeed be a reunion since some think that in this picture that Elvis Costello is second from the left and possibly Larry Wallis far left. We’ve also heard that maybe Nick made record with...

Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket Bring AmericanaramA Festival To Chicago – A CONCERT REVIEW

Song Of The Day by Eric Berman – “A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall” by Bob Dylan and his Band from the “Americanarama Festival” 2013 We live in the day and age of festivals. For music fans, festivals offer bang for the buck providing the opportunity to see numerous bands that you might not ever get to see otherwise at one time and in one place. For musicians, they open up the possibility of gaining a wider audience, particularly with festivals like the annual Pitchfork Music Festival that will be taking place here in Chicago next weekend. With a roster consisting of mostly up and coming artists, Pitchfork provides a bonanza for inquiring fans who want to discover music they’ve...

Nomad Planets ‘You’re Never Lost Until You Panic’

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#868 in the Series) is Nomad Planets, You’re Never Alone Until You Panic This is a piece that I’ve been meaning to write for quite some time. What’s taken so long? That’s an easy one.  I love this album so much that I never thought I could do it justice with words.  I still don’t think I’ll be able to but I had to make sure that you knew about. You can hear the album its entirety below so even if I slobber and make zero sense at least you can just blow me off and just give it a listen. I also want to thank Mark Mybeck for giving us permission...

Count Five ‘Psychotic Reaction’

Song Of The Day by Eric Berman – “Psychotic Reaction” by The Count Five “I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night” by The Electric Prunes, “Dirty Water” by The Standells, “Pushin’ Too Hard” by The Seeds, “Hey Joe” by The Leaves, “Farmer John” by The Premiers – these are some of the greatest garage rock classics of all time. But, perhaps the gnarliest rave up of them all is today’s Song Of The Day, “Psychotic Reaction” by The Count Five. The Count Five formed in San Jose, California in the early 1960s and consisted of John “Mouse” Michalski on guitar, Roy Chaney on bass, John “Sean” Byrne on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Craig “Butch” Atkinson on drums....

Wilco ‘Kicking Television: Live in Chicago’

Song Of The Day by Eric Berman – “Company In My Back” (Live Version from Kicking Television) by Wilco Live albums. They are the most maligned recordings by critics, yet the fans just love them. You don’t believe me? Ask Peter Frampton, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Neil Young, Neil Diamond, Little Feat, The Who, Lou Reed, Cheap Trick and Kiss to name a few, who have made classic live albums and have benefitted from huge sales. Heck, live albums are so ingrained in our pop culture, that you can probably name each of the live albums I’m referring to above, just by the list of artists. In the...

Posted 24 Jan 2012 in Music + TV News

Looking for some new Wilco? Today, January 24th, Wilco has released what is being called, the iTunes Session.  The session was recorded in their Chicago area loft this past December. It includes new takes on songs not just from their most recent album The Whole Love, but from their past as well. The eighth entry should be quite popular in this download only release. That would be their run thru the classic Nick Lowe song “Cruel to be Kind.”  Yes, Nick is also on the track.  As Wilco fans know, Nick not only appeared as a solo opening act at many of their shows, but on many nights joined them on this song during one of their encores....

Wilco “AM”

Posted 10 Apr 2010 in 90s, Albums of 1995, Albums of the 90s, Americana

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#251 in the Series) is Wilco, AM. Today we’re featuring Wilco’s 1995 debut album, AM. Even though the band has been producing great music for years, I still prefer their debut.  This one was a little more ‘Americana/Alt-Country-ish’ that suited my tastes.   If you haven’t heard it, give it a listen. AM did not chart. Those days would come soon enough. (I know, short and sweet today. We’ll have more to say tomorrow.) Here’s all the info. Track listing All songs written by Jeff Tweedy unless otherwise noted. 1. “I Must Be High” – 2:59 2. “Casino Queen” – 2:45 3. “Box Full of Letters” – 3:05 4. “Shouldn’t Be Ashamed” – 3:28...
