Vince Gill Shares His Thoughts on Today’s Country Music..and He’s Right On!

Posted 02 Nov 2010 in Uncategorized

For quite some time now I’ve been harsh on today’s country music, or more specifically, the state of today’s country radio. Now I’ve been joined by Vince Gill in its critique. It’s sad when Taylor Swift can dominate country radio and Merle Haggard can’t get a sniff. And I’m not talking about Merle’s old great albums I’m referring to his last couple of albums. They’ve been great yet completely ignored. Justin Townes Earle’s “Harlem River Blues” also did not receive any country airplay. — Larry Carta Vince’s career began with country-rockers Pure Praire League. He recently spoke with Great American Country’s Sarah Wyland. This appeared on their website. ———— Vince Gill released his latest album, Guitar Slinger, in...

Peter Gabriel “Plays Live”

Posted 27 Sep 2010 in Uncategorized

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#456 in the Series) is Peter Gabriel, Play’s Live Peter Gabriel, Plays Live… for me, this is a Desert Island Disc. And it’s not even close. Peter Gabriel’s first few solo albums after leaving Genesis are some of my favorite albums.  This was recorded on his 1982 tour.  He was on the road promoting his fourth album, the one that here in the States is called Security. It was released in a few different packages. The main release in 1983 was a double album.  The CD format of the album was also a double; however there was also a single CD version that was four songs shorter.  There was a reissue in...

NBC News Mistakenly Reports the Death of ‘Astronaut Neil Young’

Posted 25 Aug 2010 in Uncategorized

“First Man on the Harvest Moon!” – Stephen Dalrymple NBC News were the first to report the death of astronaut Neil Armstrong, which is obviously a huge story, but in the frenzy to get the first full story up on their website they made a mistake in their headline. They originally reported the death of ‘Astronaut Neil Young’. NBC News first reported Armstrong’s death in a tweet . That’s where most people first heard the news. Armstrong’s wife Carol told NBC’s Jay Barbree about her husband’s passing  and that’s how word got out. Barbree broke the story, and he’s getting praised  for it. In the minutes after, the NBC News website was frantically trying to get their story up. In their haste, a mistake was...

Star Search.. Looking Back at Today’s Stars That We First Saw on the Show.

Posted 20 Jun 2010 in Uncategorized

Live contestant talent shows are all the rage for about ten years now.  I don’t need to name them, you know what they are.  Star Search was hosted originally by Ed McMahon from 1983 thru 1995 and then later by Arsenio Hall for a couple years, 2003 and 2004. It’s amazing to look back at some of the indeed star talent that made their way to that stage at Earl Carroll Theatre in California and later at the Disneyland Hollywood Studio in Orlando, Florida. The talent was broken down into five full time categories Male and Female Vocalist, Vocal Group, Comedy and Dance. There were also five part time categories. There was Teen Vocalist and Junior Dance the...

Bob Dylan “Hard Rain”

Posted 24 May 2010 in Uncategorized

Today’s Cool Album of the Day (#705 in the Series) is Bob Dylan, Hard Rain I was more than a little late in becoming a Bob Dylan fan.  I don’t know why, maybe I was a little too young to understand the meaning and the impact of a good protest song.  That and I remember having to sing “Turn, Turn, Turn” at Church once. That wasn’t really a turn on for this kid. I still remember the first time that he made an impact on me. PBS was running a special on producer John Hammond Sr.  On this show (which included a very young Bruce Springsteen if I remember correctly) Bob introduced his new song “Hurricane.” No, I...

Arthur Alexander ‘Soldier of Love’

Posted 04 Feb 2010 in Uncategorized

Song Of The Day by Eric Berman – “Soldier Of Love (Lay Down Your Arms)” by Arthur Alexander He’s the only artist to be covered by the holy trinity of Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Others who rushed to his deep well of first-rate copyrights included The Hollies, Ry Cooder, Pearl Jam, Ike & Tina Turner, Marshall Crenshaw, George Jones, Otis Redding, The Bee Gees, Humble Pie, and Dusty Springfield, and that’s only a small sampling of those who have recorded his tunes. Yet, Arthur Alexander, the man who wrote such classics as “Anna (Go To Him),” “You Better Move On,” “Sally Sue Brown,” “Detroit City,” “A Shot Of Rhythm And Blues” and...
