New Bonnie Raitt Album “Slipstream” Coming April 10th

We’re only in the first few days of 2012 and we now know of yet another new album in the works. Today we get word of Bonnie Raitt’s first album in seven years. The new album which will be titled “Slipstream” will be released this April. It will be her first new album since “Souls Alike” hit the streets in 2005.

“I hadn’t stopped moving in a very long time so I really wanted to take a total break and not concentrate on making a new record or what I was going to do next,” Raitt said. “So that was really valuable because I waited until I was really ready to come back.”

The new album will feature 12 songs and will be released on Bonnie’s own Redwing Records. Four songs will feature producer Joe Henry’s (Allen Toussaint, Solomon Burke) band while the rest will be self-produced and will include her touring band as backup.

Like Bonnie said: “It’s just a new batch of great songs.”

Among the 12 songs will be covers of Bob Dylan’s “Million Miles” and “Standing in the Doorway” along with Loudon Wainwright III’s “You Can’t Fail Me Now.” There’ll also be a reggae flavored version of Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Down the Line.”

“Big” Al Anderson (formerly of the great band NRBQ) makes a guest appearance on guitar. He also co-wrote three of the tracks. Other guests include Bill Frisell, Paul Brady and Maia Sharp.

This will be Bonnie’s first album since losing both her parents her brother and her best friend. She recently explained her hiatus as time “to get back in touch with the other party of my life.”

Pre-orders for April 10 release “Slipstream” are being taken at Bonnie’s website. Look for a tour in support as well.
